Chisanga

Chisanga comes from the Bemba language, a Bantu language spoken predominantly in northern and central Zambia, particularly in Luapula, Northern, and Copperbelt provinces, as well as in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Bemba, 'isanga' or 'chisanga' relates to something precious, given, or treasured. The 'chi-' prefix is a Bemba noun class marker that in this context contributes to the sense of a valued or significant thing, and by extension a valued or significant person. Gift names are among the most common and beloved across African naming traditions, reflecting the near-universal view that children are blessings rather than burdens.
