M names span more cultures than almost any other letter. Expect classic English choices, Irish and Welsh heritage picks, Hebrew names that have travelled widely, and modern favourites whose popularity has grown in the last decade.
How to shortlist by initial
Start broader than you think. Jot down every name you like, across origins and styles. Once the longlist is thirty or forty names deep, patterns appear: you will notice you lean short or long, soft or strong, classic or modern. Those patterns are your real shortlist.
Middle-name pairings
If the first name starts with M, classic middle-name partners include James, John, Rose, Grace, Mae and Alexander. Monogram-minded parents tend to avoid a middle name with the same initial, but a double-M monogram can also look elegant, especially on a short first name.
