Franca

Franca is the feminine form of Franco, which derives from the Frankish people, a Germanic tribal confederation that dominated much of Western Europe after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The Franks gave their name to France and to the Latin word francus, meaning free, because Frankish warriors were free men rather than conquered subjects.

The concept of freedom embedded in the word francus passed into Italian through the Germanic influence on medieval Italian society and naming conventions.
