Jovian

Jovian derives from the Latin Iovianus, an adjectival form built from Iovis, the genitive case of Iuppiter or Jupiter, the chief deity of the Roman pantheon. The name Jupiter itself is ancient, combining Iu or Iov, a form of the Proto-Indo-European root for sky father, with pater, the Latin word for father. This root is cognate with the Greek Zeus and with the Sanskrit Dyaus Pita, all of them expressions of the ancient Indo-European concept of a sky father deity, demonstrating that the religious and linguistic tradition behind Jovian stretches back thousands of years before Latin itself. In Roman culture Jupiter was the king of the gods, ruler of the sky and thunder, protector of the state, and bringer of good fortune, making anything described as Jovian an implicit claim to grandeur and divine favour.
