Pawan

Pawan derives from the Sanskrit 'pavana', itself from the root 'pav', meaning to purify or to cleanse. Wind, in the Vedic understanding, is not merely atmospheric movement but the great purifier: it cleanses the sky, carries the rain, disperses impurity, and delivers the breath that sustains all life. The word pavana therefore carries the double sense of wind and purity, both of which are embedded in the name Pawan.

Vayu, the Vedic god of wind, is one of the oldest deities in the Indo-Aryan pantheon, present in the Rig Veda and described as the first to drink the soma, the divine nectar, in recognition of his primacy among the gods.
