Riddhi derives from the Sanskrit verbal root 'riddh', meaning to grow, to prosper, to flourish, or to succeed. From this root comes the noun 'riddhi', denoting prosperity, achievement, or an abundance of good fortune. The word appears extensively in Vedic literature, where the 'Ashta Riddhis' or eight divine prosperities are enumerated as supernatural powers or qualities of the highest attainment: these include limitless might, the ability to become infinitely small or large, the power of levitation, and mastery over the elements. In the Puranic tradition, Riddhi is one of the two principal consorts of Lord Ganesha, the other being Siddhi (meaning accomplishment or perfection).
